RESUME WRITING
Virtually every profession requires a resume. From dog walkers to police officers, you will need a resume, if you wish to apply for a job. It doesn't matter the salary or the position, you will need a resume to apply. A resume is a nice professional biography, which chronologically lists your past work experience; while highlighting your current skillset.

On average recruiters only spend a few weeks looking for a desired candidate. They cannot afford to lack staff and need to fill positions immediately. Your dream job could advertise an opening at any minute and will be looking to fill the position right away. This makes it highly important that you have a polished, compiled resume to send to recruiters promptly.

When making a resume you should keep in mind that you're trying to market yourself. You should try thinking of yourself as a product, which you're trying to sell. Highlight your greatest accomplishments, superb skills, qualifications and work history. When you succeed at this, you will make employers and recruiters interested in hiring you. Remember that first impressions are everything! Employers and recruiters spend less than a minute per resume, scanning through the information. You have less than a minute to sell yourself and make a wonderful impression.

Your resume should illustrate that you will be an asset to their company. The employer should be under the impression that it would benefit them to hire you. They should be intrigued to meet you in person and further discuss the position and ask further questions.

Employers are looking for three specific things when scanning your resume
* You possess the know-how, resources and skills to get the job done.
* Your qualifications, certifications and experience that match your skills.
* The company will benefit from hiring you; you will fit in with their company and are optimistic.

If you're sending electronic copies of your resume insure it has a good title. Your resumes file name should be your first and last name; followed by resume. If your resume has a strange title, it will turn employers off from viewing it.

Your contact information should be clearly written at the top of your resume (a bold text is recommended for at least your name). You should have your name, address, phone number, email and fax. You should not use nicknames on your resume. The only name you should be using on your resume is your legal name (what's on your social insurance card). If you use a different name that you go by, you run the risk of confusing your potential employers. The last thing you want to do is confuse the person looking to hire you. You want to make sure you're easily contactable and reachable. The phone number you list on your resume is also very important. Make sure you provide a number where you can be reached during business hours. If you cannot be reached at this time make sure the number has an answering machine service, where employers can leave a message. If you're hard to reach, you're probably not going to get an interview. Recruiters aren't going to waste their day calling you for most of it.
